  • Xbee Automated haunted house

    Hi, I’m Eric,

    New to the adafuit community.

I do a haunted house every year, each year has gotten more and more advanced. Animatronic’s , Light control, fog f/x etc.. In 2009 i controlled my haunt via computer, but there where a lot of limitations. I want to create a device with the xbee that communicates with a computer and activates a prop (Animatronic). Each prop would have a xbee device that has a PIR sensor, or mat switch, when a person triggers it the xbee will communicate with the other xbee connected to the computer. I want multiple devices but don’t know what hardware/ software to purchase. The device with the xbee would only trigger prop’s, via relays the props all have there own microcontrollers and electronics that are activated with a dry contact. Any input on this idea would be appreciated.

    Thank you all in advance

  • Hey guys I'm ABSOLUTELY new to XBee so let me put my questions across to you guys in the clearest way possible. What I have : A few XBee Series 1 modules and the Sparkfun XBee explorer board (http://www.sparkfun.com/products/8687) I'm using a couple of Arduino Fio boards, each of which has an XBee on it and it communicates with an XBee connected to my computer. As in, I have 4 Arduino boards, each in communication with one XBee par (ie. 8 XBee's in total). I'm trying to figure out if I can use the 4 Arduino + Xbee's to communicate with my computer via ...
Would all I need to order to make a remote temperature sensor/light sensor is: - Two XBee + Two XBee adapter units (one for the logging computer and one for the remote sensor) - An FTDI cable to connect the XBee to the computer - Some sort of micro controller and developer board for said MCU - A temperature sensor the mentioned MCU can read and send to the XBee. And a light sensor of some sort - Soldering skills, batteries, etc. (already have these though) I may also want to make multiple sensors all communicating to the XBee on the computer. Is it that simple?
Hello everyone! I'm newcomer in the "forum". I face the following problem I want to connect my "arduino" with my computer wirelessly , so I bought the following items: - Arduino Duemilanove - this Explorer USB - this Xbee (with antenna cable) - and this Xbee (with RPSMA) I had connect the first xbee with my usb explorer and while i was trying again and again to set it right with X-CTU Software, suddenly, xbee ceases to communicate with my computer. After that, the modem is not communicating with my computer ... X-CTU says "Unable to communicate with modem"... Is my xbee dead? How ...
I have recently acquired 2 Xbee 900 Pros, 1 Xbee explorer (usb) and regulated xbee explorer (UART). I have reason to believe the regulated xbee explorer may be faulty, but I just want to double check with you guys. Here's what I've done: - used X-CTU to make sure the firmware on both xbees are up to date, and I reset them to factory defaults. Test 1: ***************** 1) Computer USB cable Xbee explorer Xbee 900 2) Computer UART USB cable (MAX232) regulated xbee explorer Xbee 900 I ran X-CTU and realterm, each connecting to an Xbee. Typing from USB Xbee explorer -gt regulated xbee explorer = Text correct Typing ...
What I want to achieve is to toggle the DIO lines on a XBee module. The catch is the commands will be issued by a non-Xbee device (TI USB dongle). So I don't have access to those XBee API commands for querying/setting DIO/AD lines. Is there XBee firmware available that exposes the DIO lines as ZigBee endpoints/clusters (much like a ZigBee plug device or light switch relay)? I realize I could attach an MCU to the XBee UART, send ZigBee ZCL commands to the XBee which will then be passed to the MCU and have the MCU send the necessary XBee API ...
Hi. I am used to working with Digi Xtend and Xstream modems and have several of these at my disposal, but I have just ordered my first Xbee device to use for a microcontroller project. Is it possible to use either an X-tend or an X-stream as a base connected to my computer to communicate with an Xbee on the receiving end? If so, does anybody know what the configurations of each device should be? Thanks! Jim
I have one RS-232 and one usb board. I have connected one xbee with USB board and other with rs-232 board. They are able to communicate with each other. I wanted to ask suppose if i will configure one xbee as a end device/router. Then remove it from those boards and then give a separate power supply to Pin 1 and 10 then the communication is possible? i.e. if these xbee can work as a stand alone module or i have to connect microcontroller with xbee to make it as a end device? Regards Ragdarbari
Hi, The past couple of days my XBee has not been able to communicate to my other device. I only got it to communicate once so far since it started doing this, and that was when I kept my other device on for a couple of minutes and then turned on the other XBee... but I think I just had good luck that time. What has been happening is that the XBee will get powered, flicker the TX and RX leds, and then wait and light up the RSSI led, but then after the RSSI led turns off it just sits there ...
Hello I am a final year student embarking on a final year project which involves XBees as the main communication module. Right now, I am exploring power saving techniques to lower down power consumption and save costs. I am interested to have my microcontroller - PIC, to pin control the XBee to sleep, in which I can control it via pin 9 on the XBee module together with the settings of SM = 1 or 2. However, I have one question in mind. When do I exactly put the XBee to sleep? I am intending to wake the XBee only for ...
Hi all, I was searching around the internet/ forums and was wondering how to communicate between two arduinos (mega, and duemilanove) with xbee. I was not able to find anything except how to do it between a computer and an arduino, but not arduino to arduino... This is a follow up from here:http://www.arduino.cc/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1291601530/5#5, but back then I only had one. I have a few questions: How would I go about doing this? What type of xbee would I use? (I only need to communicate across my house) Im very new to Xbee so what code for the ...
Hi, I have two Xbee Pro 900: No. 1) Xbee connected to the Xbee Explorer USB and then to my PC No. 2) Xbee connected to the Xbee Explorer Regulated and then connected to an FTDI chip and then to my PC I am able to send data from Xbee 1 and then view the data received by Xbee 2. However if I send data from Xbee 2 the data recieved by Xbee 1 just appears as dots in the terminal program. I notice that on the Xbee 1 in the terminal program the CTS status is green and on Xbee 2 the CTS is black. Any ...
I have setup a netduino with a xbee shield(end device). The other xbee is connected to a computer to receive the output(co-ordinator). Now i have a loop in tthe code in the netduino where i send data from to the computer. It is the same data everytime(this is to test that i can commnicate using the xbee). When i start the netduino, the computer never receives the netduino xbee packets until after a few seonds(5-20secods). So if the netduino sends 20 packets the receiver usually only receives that last 10 or so packets! The xbees are setup in Zigbee Explicit format (AO=1). It appears ...
Hi All, I am working on my senior project and I want to be able to monitor two devices using the NE64 board with the onboard XBee Pro transceiver. I want to attach an XBee transceiver to a smoke detector and one to a cheap wireless doorbell. I need either a LCD connected to the NE64 or just the computer screen to display which device has been activated. I have been trying to generate some sort of signal by connecting the XBee to the smoke detector to no avail. When I ...
Hi, I'm struggling to get a pair of XBee Series 2.5 modules to work with SparkFun's XBee Wireless Shield. I've searched and looked through the documentation but I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I've confirmed the XBee's work with a set of Libelium shields. I can get the XBee's working with those shields. My setup: Connected to the computer: Arduino 2009 + shield + Xbee. Arduino is in RESET, switch on UART. Using Processing to send keystrokes to other XBee. Standalone: Arduino 2009 + shield + Xbee. Arduino set to receive serial input. I'm tearing my hair out. Any help or tips would be ...
Hi ! I'm totally new to this Arduino stuff and I have a some quoestion. I have read a lot of topics and tutorials, so I have a some idea how to program the Arduino and how things generally work. This is my consept: The measuring device would have some kind tempature sensor, XBEE transmitter and a 9 volt powersulpy. There would be 5 to 10 pcs of these devices around the house. Then there would be the dislpay/log device. It would contain Arduino, XBEE, a small screen and some data store device (a small memory card). It would be enough, if the screen ...
I was looking for a fun technology that I could play with, nothing serious in mind, and I ran into the xbee devices. Before I say anything else, I am a Computer Science guy, with little to no electronics experience. What I hope to get from this post is a general idea if what I am looking for is available and a relative measure of how much difficulty I might end up having. What I want to know is: Is there a set of boards that I could buy that require me to not have to build a circuit, and just use ...
Hi, I have a Xbee-network with two devices (XB24-B). There is one Xbee-coordinator and one router/end device. If both where placed in the Digi USB-development boards (XBIB-U-DEV) they work well. But when I place the "end device Xbee" in my application, this Xbee only receives messages from the coordinator. The coordinator does not accept any messages from my application with the Xbee end device. Does anybody had a similar experience with the Xbees? Sebastian
Hey everyone, about to start on a new project and am planning to use to the Arduino FIO and Xbee (Series 1 modules) to have a bunch of remote objects communicating with a central computer. I've done a bunch of research through the forums here, as well as guides from the Arduino website, Ladyada, et al. and without getting into the gory details of programming/setting up Xbees, sketches to the fio..etc, I wanted to make sure my general conception of the setup is correct before I order parts. Is the following correct before I place my order? 1) I need to purchase ...
Hi, I'm looking to send commands from my Xbee(from my computer or arduino) to the RC Helicopter. Is this possible? Can anyone point me to a website or project where this has been done. Essentially I want my Xbee to take the place of my RC transmitter so I can control my RC Helicopter serially through my computer. And I don't want to have to put another Xbee on the helicopter. thanks! Kedar
