  • Sanguinolou / stepper-motors.

I’m a first time Prusa Mendel builder wishing to connect my Sanguinololu to my stepper-motors.

    I hav a Nema-17 42BYGHW811 stepper-motors. Wiring: Black=A, Green=B, Red = C and Blue=D.

The Sanguinololu connections for the stepper motors are 2B, 2A, 1A and 1B.
Now I’m a little confused which wire goes where.
If anyone can give me a helping hand, I would be very grateful.

I am in the process of sourcing parts for a LM8UU Prusa Mendel and I was wondering if someone could recommend a place to order my Nema 17 stepper motors and stepper driver boards for my Sanguino I got coming. For both, the Wiki links to a sites outside of the US. I am more concerned about getting the right stepper motors because it seems there are two types of NEMA 17 stepper motors (high and low voltage). Thanks in advance. I'm looking at these right now: Nema 17 Stepper Motors A4988 Stepper Motor Driver Carrier or StepStick BE

Hello, I'm working on my first reprap, and just finished soldering my sanguinololu 1.3a. I was about to start wiring stepper motors when i noticed that the z axis has a spot for 2 4-pin headers, although I can only fit one. I was wondering if it is acceptable to put the 2 z axis motors in series instead of parallel like the board has them. I've worked with other repraps and we just connected 2 of the compliment wires to each other and had 4 wires going into the board for the z axis. oh and one more quick ...
Partly to stave off analysis paralysis, I wanted to ask the community what electronics I should choose. I'm planning to build some sort of Prusa RepStrap. There seems to be two main choices, RAMPS and Sanguinololu, this RepRap wiki electronics page seems to have the best comparisons, but it would be interesting to hear the latest information and reccomendations. I may want to use stepper motors other than NEMA 17, I've already a few assorted ones in the workshop, should that affect my choice? Hopefully I won't start a RAMPS vs Sanguinololu religious war Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at ...
Hi, I have built a PCB to control 2 stepper motors at the same time. I'm using 2 darlington switches, and serial comm to control the stepper motors. However, if I run both motors together, the first time works perfectly, but whether it works the next few times is quite random. I noticed that the motors work if the current measured by the power supply is maintained at a certain level(~gt1A). But the current keeps dropping after the first time the motors turn. Any possible ideas what causes the current to keep dropping? Because if I only connect 1 stepper motor ...
Im new to stepper motors and this question may have been asked and answered already. I have a stepper that steps at 1.8 deg. If I want to move it 90 deg with the stepper library i give it a value of 50. As I understand this is a integer can I feed the it a float value to move the stepper a fraction of a deg?
Greetings, I'm trying to make my own stepper controller for a robotics project and need some help (this is the first time I've used stepper motors). I have a few old stepper motors from printers and the like, But I'm not sure how to tell if one of them is unipolar or bipolar. It has 6 wires but there are 8 black dots on the surface. any thoughts?
Just finished building a Prusa. Electronics are Sanguiolou. I've copied Adrian's Prusa Notes including his heat bed set-up with remote mosfet, power supply, wiring etc. The problem is that whenever the heat bed switches on or off, the stepper motors skip steps. I've tried totally seperating the heat bed wiring from the stepper wires but no change. I figure running a seperate power supply just for the bed might help but have no idea how to wire it so that the temp is still controlled by the Sanguinololu on the original power supply. Help! Dave
    I have just made one circuit for the Unipolar stepper motor using the L293B driver chip with arduino using the following code #include ltStepper.hgt // steps value is 360 / degree angle of motor #define STEPS 200 // create a stepper object on pins 4, 5, 6 and 7 Stepper stepper(STEPS, 4, 5, 6, 7); void setup() { } void loop() { stepper.setSpeed(60); stepper.step(200); delay(100); stepper.setSpeed(20); stepper.step(-50); delay(100); } However i intend to control five stepper ...
Hi everyone, I need to control two of these stepper motors using my Netduino. At the same site i found this Adafruit Motor Shield and i wanted to know if it will work with Netduino using stepper motors. On youtube there's a video that shows the netduino working with this shield, but using a DC motor, not a stepper one,so i'd like to know if it will work with stepper motors. (basically if this shield is compatible with netduino) Another question,if i use a shield like that on my netduino, will i be able to use unused digital/analog pin anyway? For example,i need to use the shield ...
Salam mes Amis, I got hold of some stepper motors the other day, and now I'm wondering if I could give them a try. Those are sanyo denki 103g771-0611 unipolar motors (6-wire) rated 2,46 V and 1,82 A Am I right to assume that if treated as bipolar motors they have a current of about 1.4A which could be handled by the L298? thank alot for your help 'sid
Hello RepRappers, I have a set of generation 3 boards from the grrf.de shop and have not physically modified them for mendel (yet). The only modification is in the firmware; I put the mendel firmware from the FiveD_GCode_Interpreter.pde sketch in reprap-mendel-20100806.zip. I have 4 stepper motors that should work with generation 3 electronics. Now, as the subject line already told you, when I hook up the stepper driver board and a motor I can't get it to turn. All LEDs next to the motor connector light up and stay like that. They don't blink when I instruct the motor to ...
I am seriously confused about using the stepper motors or the dc motors with encoders for the micromouse . can any one tell me which one would be better for the competition. i already used stepper once which was rated 4.5v, 1.2a and i was just able to navigate some twenty odd steps at iit b techfest. then had some stupid hardware proble. now i am deciding to improve this. i used l293 d initially .. so the question is should i use l297 and l298 and improve upon my existing stepper bot or should i use the dc motors ...
Hi. I have an Arduino Duemilanove and the Motor Shield. I also purchased a few stepper motors (PF35-T) from here. It works fine with two steppers, but for my project, I need to have at least 3 (4 will be perfect) stepper motors. Is there any way to control 3-4 stepper motors with this Motor Shield? Or should I have Arduino Mega for more IO pins? Please advise. Thank you. JJ

Looking on the list it looks like the stepper motors need about 1400 g/cm of torque. Converting to oz/in I came up with 125 oz/in. However I am having a fair dificulty finding a Nema 17 frame stepper with that kind of holding torque. Do I really need that much or would 80oz/in holding be enough? What stepper motors are your using on your mendal? Thanks, David
I've just finished assembling my Mendel last night, and mounted most of my electronics. I've plugged in my motherboard, successfully uploaded code, and hooked my stepper boards up. The only things that aren't hooked up are my opto switches (I lost one wire -.-) and my extruder/controller. My stepper boards have two green LEDs up top by the power, and my X axis stepper has one red LED by the input. Would the lack of the optoswitch connections prevent the board from moving my steppers? I get no response when I try to nudge the motors, or when I try ...

On the RepStrap that Im designing Im thinking of using 2 maybe 4 of the smaller Nema 17 stepper motors for the Z axis. I will also be testing an idea of the bed being supported by the timing belts (4 of them, with guides to keep the bed stationary. I would like to use all of the generation 3 electronics. My question is with the RepRap Motherboard will I be able to run 2-4 Stepper motors off of the same motherboard output (with the outputs for the x and y axis's still free obviously)? If so would i just ...
Hello, So I just received my stuff from makerbot, which included 3 Nema 23 stepper motors for my darwin. Bottom line: I forgot to get a Nema 17 for the extruder v2.0. I'd like to know if my only choice is to again order from Makerbot, or I can somehow get it from a supplier in North America (preferably Canada). If anyone has used a different stepper motors from a different supplier please let me know. Alternatives might also help my situation. Your help will be MUCH APPRECIATED Thanks, Mahdi
