I am using LN96's in my senior project and I am having trouble getting them to work. I bought three of them, and of the three, none of them give any indication that they are on at all. I am talking to them with a Freescale 9s12xe MCU, and have them connected in the following fashion: GND GND Vcc +5V TXD RXD (9s12) RXD TXD (9s12) ATXD Unconnected BTXD Unconnected SLEEP GND RESET +5V There is NO response from the LED. The 5V-gt3.0V conversion on the board is working, I verifed that the board's MCU has power and gnd. My question is: is the CodeWarrior Development Studio free to download to program the MCU? I tried looking at their website but it says the free version only allows for assembly programming is that true? Im newbie in assembly and it will be better if i can use C to program my board. Please Help! Thank youJust for some background, I am a EE (B.S.) who has mainly done Windows programming in C/C++ for a living. Mainly, I learned how to code through experience (in otherwords, I didnt have a CS specialty in school or anything) The thing is, how does one become a firmware engineer, or write embedded code? I figure code is code, so why wouldn't a guy like myself be able to be hired to do firmware? Do you have to take microcontroller courses? Is it preferable to have a CS degree? I've known EE majors who end up writing firmware, so what is the ...I've been trying to piece together a full 9s12 toolchain that I can run on Linux. I've found bits and pieces (it seems to exist full for hc11 series). Can someone point me in a better direction? Thanks.Hi, I just received my eZ8 development board. I have been an assembly programmer for several years but I have never developed C code for a microcontroller. I know C but I am still a beginner. Can anyone send me some C code writtern for the eZ8 development board so I can learn from it? Any pointers on code development for the eZ8 board is also appreciated. Has anyone ever developed an ibutton interface for the eZ8 or other 8 bit controller in C ? Thank you for your time. I am thinking of getting a new development board with the capacity to deal with PICs with a pin count of up to 40. I'd also like it to be able to deal with other sizes of MCU (definitely 28-pin, possibly 20). I've come across two boards which look particularly interesting: i) The microEngineering Lab-X1 microEngineering Labs Online Store: LAB-X1 Experimenter Board (Assembled) and ii) The MikroElektronika EasyPIC6 EasyPIC6 Development System - PIC Development Board - I'd appreciate your thoughts on these two, (or any others you might recommend), especially if you have personal experience of them; any pros and cons, anything you really like ...Hello, As part of an new development programme we need to upgrade an existing 68HC705SR3 microcontroller based system. To do this we want to purchase an (ICE)emulator amp programming solution. for this microcontroller. I am a sophomore computer engineering major with some decent programming experience (C++, java, vb). I am looking to try out an AVR microcontroller and I stumbled on this site. I know most of you are going to tell me to buy an STK500 but I wanted to start a bit more basic (and cheap!). Following SparkFun's embedded electronics guide I wanted to create a simple breadboard development circuit. I have limited experience with circuit design/creation, although I have used a soldering iron, ...I am heavily interested in Operating System theory and design and have decided I would like to play with developing an OS. I have a background in x86 assembly and have looked into ARM also. I would like a development board to develop the OS for. Has anyone had experience with OS development and/or can suggest some hardware to use? One board I am considering is the LPC1769 LPCXpresso board. I am aware I could use a VM, but I would like to use actual hardware.I am a hardware engineer and want to get aquainted with embedded programming by working on a microcontroller development board. I would like to buy one for myself to experiment, so are there any sites giving good deals on the dev boards. I would like to have suggestions on what sort of board to go for. I know a bit of C and assembly programming. thanks in advanceSo i just order the AVRISP mkII programmer from amtel and im seeing people talking about using development boards. The tutorial i followed just used the AVRISP mkII programmer to burn the hex files onto the mcu. Do you have to have a development board to program an avr mcu or can you just use the AVRISP mkII programmer. Does using a development board make it easier to test the finished code on the MCU? If so how do you know a development board is compatible with certain avr mcu's. I was looking at the 40 pin teensy usb development ...I have a question as an experienced software developer considering shifting my emphasis to embedded systems programming. (I have OS development background that seems like a good fit.) Please comment on the claim I heard about embedded development: that there's often (usually?) only one *software* guy on an embedded project. If he wanted to, could an embedded programmer get assignments where he is the only software guy? -- Mark Abbott
