  • Can I use 2nd laptop USB to power Prop Demo Board?

I’m a newbie, so beg pardon if this is a dumb question.

As I’m learning/developing with the Propeller Demo Board, I’m always hooked up to my laptop via USB. I also have to carry around a battery pack to power the Demo Board. The laptop has unused USB ports which can provide 5+ VDC and (according to specs) no more than 2 Amps.

Can I cannibalize an old USB cable, solder on a barrel plug, and use it to power the Demo Board?

My only 5 VDC usage is for a single servo.

  • OK, So I just received my shiny new Propeller Demo Board. I just have one question before I get started. I plugged in the USB cable and my system found it without any problems and everything installed. I have not yet plugged a power supply in and I just want to make sure that it has to be plugged in for the Spin program to find it, or should it find it without having the external power??? I know this may seem like an odd question, but I just want to make sure I have it right before frying anything. ...
Today I dug out my old demo board and installed the default demo program on it that outputs to the tv... The one with the counting 0 - 9 and some vector graphics. Something seems odd. On the demo board is the video cut off on top and bottom? Like the top 1/4 of the number cut off? Seems odd. Wanted to ask before I started looking for a different TV to use this on.
Can the XBee USB Adapter Board be used with the Propeller Demo Board ? I would like to know if the USB connector on the XBee USB Adapter Board can be connected to the USB connector on the Propeller Demo Board via a USB cable ? I am trying to avoid using additional propeller pins on the demo board. I did not see this mentioned in the XBee Tutorial - Chapter 2 Draft "Parallax XBee Adapter Boards" .
We have developed our own board based on the Tower Demo board. Our board is fitted with a 48MHz crstal as is the demo board but when we run exactly the same application code on our board it seems to be running much slower. Both CLKMOD pins are tied LOW as default on the TWR demo board and XTAL is tied high (likewise on the demo board). Using the HelloWorld demo serial data is corrupted from our board while the demo works fine. To make sure its not something to do with the serial line drivers ...
Ok, I just bought my first propeller in the form of the starter kit, so yes, I am a bit of a newbie here. I have a 5.5v 3amp power supply that I want to use with it (it is the power supply to the device I want to use the propeller to control). The specs for the demo board say: Power requirements: 6-9 VDC, 2A regulator on board How might I make it ok to use the power supply I have? Thanks in advance, Brian
MPLAB can power on the demo board via the PICKIT3 programmer. I can access the demo board using PK3cmd. For example pk3cmd /P18F45K20 /V3.250 /GFMyHex.hex But every time I issue a command, the board shuts back down again. Is therea anyway to keep the board powered up (other than applaying external power)?
I'm waiting for this the PICKit2 Debug Express (http://www.electro-tech-online.com/c...6b80a133bc.pdf) to be delivered, however I'm wondering if I'm buying the right thing. What exactly will the demo board let me do? Since I've got some PIC18F2550s, would I be able to use them with the demo board? (the demo boards comes with a PIC16F887). Is there any benefit to getting the demo board, or should I just buy the PICKit2 programmer alone? Thanks
Well had my first chip fry...poor practice on my part I think I was over running my chip with a 12-15 vdc power supply into the prop demo board that clearly says 6-9 vdc Seemed to be fine, the "stock" demo was fine until I used electrical tape and stuck a knock off snes pad to it. clock, latch, data, gnd, vcc and an extra line called dv which I went to ground Plugged them into the demo board pins 0-2 for clock latch and data... went to load the prop via usb and got a bad checksum...then tried to identify the prop(after ...
The Q44 Prop on by board has Ground going to all 4 VSS pins and the Brown Out Enable, 3.3v going to all 4 VDD pins, P28 amp P29 going to EEPROM, P30 amp P31 amp RESn amp Ground going to a propellor USB adapter, and nothing is touching the XO or XI pins. I'm getting 3.3v coming out of my unused prop pins, but when I connect my prop to the propellor tool via the mini-USB adapter it comes back saying it cannot locate a propellor on any port(Port 4). When I move the USB cord over to my ...
I have been having a really bad weekend. I blew out two PICS and two LCDs. So I wanted to make sure my PICKit3 was still working. I think made another STUPID mistake. I think I hooked up the PicKIT3 to the demo board before I configured it for external voltage. I had been working with a 5V PIC and I will bet it was set to 5VDC output. My demo board is a 3.3 V PIC. Normally I try to reconnect to the PICKit3 without the demo board connected to be sure the right voltage is set. The PIC on the ...
Hi,I have 2 PICDEM FS USB demo board and am having a project in making a USB HID firmware for the board. There are some sample firmware from the latest microchip framework (v.2.5), and also one from Jan Axelson (lvr.com). Many of the firmware have claimed that they have been tested on the board i have. So I went on and compiled the one of the HID project using MPLAB IDE, and they compiled and built with no error. I then programmed the .HEX file to the board using the bootloader, and it also went smoothly. But after I reset ...
Just received a brand new ATDVK90CAN1. Applied power expecting to see the demo program run(the manual says it's already loaded), but outside of the power LEDs lighting there was no activity. Tried to reprogram through the STK500 board to only get an error message. I suspect that I have a board with a bad AVR. My question is fairly simple, has anyone received a board without the demo programming running at initial power up, but later able to program it and get it to work. Thanks Bill
WOW!!!! Now I see what all the hype is about with the Propeller. I have only just begun and I must say that I am extremely impressed. I think I may be on the verge of selling all my Stamp items so I can buy more Prop toys!!! I can actually SEE what I am doing and my next lesson is to make it speak some words of joy to my wife. (She has the misconception that I wasted my money on the Demo Board!!!) I can't wait to get it implemented in my bot project. The real bummer part ...
Do you have the electronic schematic for the PicDem 2 Plus demo board ? The documentation provided by Microchip with the present PicDem 2 Plus demo board ( 30 REV 6 Assy# 02-01630-R10 Serial# BUR104911360 ) correspond to an older version of the demo board. Many thanks in advance for your help.
I am building my own Arduino board for use in a custom project for my car. The question I have relates to using a power supply for the microcontroller (a Atmega328) while simultaneously outputing signals on the USB Data+/- lines to a laptop. Here are the devices for this problem: Atmega328, FTDI chip, 12V -gt5V Buck converter, laptop computer. I will use this board in two types of scenarios. Scenario A (Initial setup and configuration/validation): Connect the USB from the laptop to the USB on the board, draw power from the USB +5V pin. Communicate to the Atmega328 through the serial-gtUSB ...
I have my shiny new Propeller Demo Board. Now, what to do with it??? Are there any projects I can do that include pictures such as there is with the WAM manual? I kind of like to have visuals when learining something new so I do not mess things up.I am currently reading the Prop Manual and also the Programming and Customizing The Multicore Prop Microcontroller Manual but I would like some examples. Edit: Also, Why is there only 8 I/O spots and then 2 VSS, 2 VDD and 1 5v? Is this possibly because the Video, Keyboard, Mouse and Speaker ...
I'm new owner of pickit 3 debug express. I have try connect my pickit3 and the demo board and build the pickit3 lessons, learn to program and debug on the demo board Problem occurs when I try to build lesson 7 (using ADC Lesson) using release configuration, it successfully build in debug configuration and program the demo board went fine with debug device set to pickit3. the code can be execute, step over, step through etc. in mplap without problem. (PS. Power was set to default 3.25 V in debug setting.). When mplap set in release configuration, it build sucessfully. ...
So, its that time again. I'm just about ready to start production on my new power board, and I want to get some idea of the interest. Here's what this board does: - allows you to plug in both wall power (12 volts) and a battery to your bioloid robot - wall power plug compatible with the bioloid power brick - battery and output plugs are screw terminals - when you have both plugged in, it will always power the circuit from wall power, regardless of the battery/wall voltage - it will auto-disconnect the battery if the pack voltage drops below 9.6 volts (programmable) - no voltage ...
Hi all, I am a newbie of Arm Cortex M3. Recently, I downloaded the RL-ARM HTTP Demo for MCBSTM32C and loaded it to the MCBSTM32C board successfully. However, I cannot recompile the demo although I have the professional MDK license and Real-Time Library. Do you know how to config and compile the demo ? Thank you.
